Our story

Why Irish in Barcelona exists

The Irish have always been great at making a home wherever they land — and Barcelona, with its sunshine, sea and sociable streets, is an easy place to fall for. But leaving family, friends and the local behind can still feel lonely at first. Who do you watch the Six Nations with? Who gets the "how's the craic?" texts?

Irish in Barcelona started with a simple idea: give Irish people in the city — and anyone who loves Irish company — an easy, friendly way to find their people.

We're part of the AmigoUp community, which runs free social events in Barcelona every single week: coffee mornings, social sports, pub quizzes, match nights, sunset walks and beach days. That means you'll meet Irish faces and people from all over the world — the best of both.

From there, the community keeps it going itself — making plans and chatting in the WhatsApp community. No cliques, no pressure — just a warm welcome.

What we stand for

Our values

Céad míle fáilte

A hundred thousand welcomes. Irish, half-Irish, Irish-at-heart or just curious — anyone 18+ is welcome, from anywhere.

Real connections

We're a social community, not a networking event. Nobody is selling anything — people are here to make friends.

Come as you are

Most people come alone the first time. Shy or outgoing, you'll fit right in — organisers make sure nobody is left out.

Respect, always

Kindness first, zero tolerance for harassment. Our community is moderated so it stays friendly and safe.

Free or low-cost

Joining is free and most events are too. Any cost is always shown clearly on Meetup before you RSVP.

English as common ground

English is the shared language at our events — and if you've a few words of Irish, even better. No Spanish or Catalan needed.

Who it's for

Irish in Barcelona — or Irish at heart? You're in the right place

Our members come from all 32 counties and from all over the world. What they have in common is wanting a social life that's easy, friendly and full of good chat.
